The art of playing music is something to behold. Some are able to practice this as a profession, but for most music lovers, it is a favored pastime. But one thing is common to all those who play music, and that is a musical instrument. There are literally thousands of types of instruments, from a grand piano to a pair of spoons, but have you ever wondered which are the most popular, as used in our society. Well today we are going to look at 3 of the most popular musical instruments.
Guitar - Today's classical guitar has its roots in Spain, with the Spanish being credited for refining the six-stringed version. The guitar is played by "plucking" the strings with one's fingers, or a plectrum. The other hand is used to play the frets that are set into the fingerboard. Guitars became very popular again with the advent of rock-n-roll in the 50's, 60's and beyond. Guitars are still extremely popular today, across all generations.
Flute - Flutes are thought to date back 35,000 to 40,000 years, and are thought to have originated in Europe. Primitive flutes, made from animal bones are commonly found in ancient dig sites, with the oldest having 3 holes and being made from mammoth's tusk. Flutes are most appreciated for their soothing sounds that calms the mind and relaxes the soul.
DJ Turntables - Now the most popular instrument amongst younger buyers (overtaking the guitar in popularity), a "set of decks" can be found in many a teenager's bedroom or family basement. Easy to learn, but hard to master, just as turntables have always been used to play vinyl records, when 2 turntables are "linked", the DJ is able to combine the sound from 2 turntables, thus creating a new "mix".
